When Gertrude Sophia Stewart-Short was born in June 1891 in Nebraska, her father, Thomas, was 36 and her mother, Sophia, was 28. She had one son and one daughter with Gilbert Young Short. She died on June 26, 1977, in Columbus, Ohio, at the age of 86, and was buried in Conway, Arkansas.
When Gilbert Young Short was born on February 4, 1886, his father, Albert, was 25 and his mother, Mary, was 19. He had five brothers and three sisters. He died in September 1986 in Conway, Arkansas, at the age of 100.
