Mrs. Myrtle McCollum, nee Phillips, wife of Dr. I. N. McCollum, died at her home this morning at 7:30 o'clock. Though her condition has been serious since last Christmas, she appeared brighter early this morning, but suddenly began to sink and expired within a few moments. An organic kisease of the heart was the cause of her death.
Mrs. McCollum was born at Mirable, Mol, Nov 29, 1868, and in 1882 moved with her parents to this county. She was married to Dr. McCollum at Greenbrier May 2, 1891, the family moving to this city in 1906. She joined the Baptist church in 1886 and has also been a member of the order of Eastern Star for several years.
Mrs. McCollum is survived by six sons, the youngest being twins less than two months old. The four older sons are John, Fred, Jesse and Willie. Besides her husband, she is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. J. A. Lea, Mrs. J. F. Brown and Mrs. Katie Kelso, all of Conway.
Mrs. McCollum was a bright, intelligent woman of many graces of character and her death is keenly regretted among a large circle of friends.
The funeral was held from the family residence on Prince Street this afternoon at 2:00 o'clock. Simple but impressive services were conducted by Rev. J. J. Hurt, pastor of the Baptist church, of which since her girlhood Mrs. McCollum had been a valued member. Mr. Hurt spoke feelingly of the beautiful and character of this excellent woman, whose untimely death is so universally mourned. The interment was in Oak Grove cemetery.
