Corinne Westerfield Hilliard Robinson, age 86, formerly of Conway, Ark., died Monday, August 9, 2004 at Martin, Tenn. She was a wife, mother, teacher, secretary, writer, historian, and above all, a Christian. She was born December 22, 1917, in Conway, Arkansas, the daughter of Eno Hilliard and Mary Westerfield, and the granddaughter of the late Dr. J.S. Westerfield of Conway.

Robinson was a fifth-generation descendent of four families, Davis-Hilliard and Westerfield-Moore. Davis Street in Conway was named for her great-grandfather, Dr. Louis Davis. Her great-great-grandfather, Henderson Moore, moved his family from North Carolina and settled near Greenbrier (formerly called Mooresville) in 1853. His son, M.E. Moore, was the first treasurer of Faulkner County. Robinson's Westerfield grandparents, Dr. J.S. and Cora Moore Westerfield, moved from Greenbrier to Conway in 1893.

Robinson graduated from Conway High School in 1934. She received an Associate of Arts degree from Central College in Conway (then an all-female college) and a Bachelor of Science in Education from Arkansas State Teachers College (now the University of Central Arkansas at Conway.) She was married nine days short of 61 years to Cyril William Robinson, who predeceased her on May 15, 2002.

Robinson taught in high school at Clinton, Arkansas. She held positions in the Faulkner County Welfare office, and worked as the secretary to the president, bookkeeper, registrar and postmistress at Central College. For twenty-seven years she worked as the secretary to the registrar at the University of Central Arkansas, retiring in 1982.

A lifetime member of the First Baptist Church of Conway, Robinson's family saw five generations attend, and four generations as members of this congregation for more than 125 consecutive years. She was the Sunday school teacher for the T.E.L. class, and later for the Joy/T.E.L. class at First Baptist Church for more than 22 years. For fifteen years she served as the church clerk. At the time of her death, she remained a member of First Baptist Church of Conway.

She was a lifetime member of the Faulkner County Historical Society, had served as an editor and was a regular contributor of the organization's periodical "Faulkner Facts and Fiddlings." She was a regular contributor and resource person for reporters of the Log Cabin Democrat, particularly on historical issues involving Faulkner County. Robinson also wrote poetry, in addition to those writings, she wrote the lyrics to the published hymn, "Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow". One of her friends once remarked, "She's smart, hard-working, dependable, and cooperative. She doesn't seek recognition, nor expect it. If it was worthwhile, Corinne was in on it. If it was successful, Corinne was one of the major reasons."

Robinson lived most of her life in Conway, but moved to Martin, Tennessee shortly after her husband's death, in order to live with her youngest son and his wife.

Survivors include two sons, Stephen William Robinson, and his wife, Judy, of Texarkana, Tex., and Richard Cyril Robinson and his wife, Fran, of Martin, Tenn. She is survived by two grandchildren, Laura Corinne Robinson of Texarkana, Tex., and Leslie Jean Robinson of Sunrise, Fla.

Family visitation will be held from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Roller-McNutt Funeral Home in Conway. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 12, 2004 at 10:00 a.m., at the First Baptist Church of Conway, with Dr. Dale Wicker officiating. Burial will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery in Conway. Pallbearers are Bill Fortner, Royce Fortner, Jack Henderson, Walter Ed Lindsay, Dr. Audie Lynch, Dr. Bob Meriweather, Dr. Denver Prince and Frank Robins III.
