Mrs. Vera C. Horton Purtle, 85, of Conway died Tuesday (Sept. 15, 1998) at her home.
Born Nov. 5, 1912, in Wolfe City, Texas, a daughter of Henry J. and Cora Poole Horton, she was the widow of the Rev. Hollis A. Purtle and member of Antioch Baptist Church. She was also president of the Arkansas Womens' Missionary Auxiliary and the 1984 Arkansas Merit Mother of the Year.
Survivors are three daughters, Peggy Harrison and Janis Banister, both of Conway, and Nancy Barber of Memphis; seven grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Antioch Baptist Church with the Rev. Henry Horton officiating. Burial will be in Oak Grove Cemetery by Griffin Leggett-Conway.
Pallbearers will be Norman Crass, Eddie Glover, Steve Martin, Bobby Wilkey, Bob Lawrence and Darrell Farley.
