Willie L. Craig Pumphrey, 88, of El Dorado, passed away Sunday, March 7, 2010, at the Medical Center of South Arkansas.

Born December 12, 1921, in El Dorado, she was the daughter of Jesse W. Craig and Georgia Prothro Craig. A 1940 graduate of El Dorado High School she was also the class valedictorian and graduated from El Dorado Junior College. She was a loving wife and mother. She retired from the El Dorado Public School District where she was a substitute teacher and Audio Visual Coordinator. A member of First Baptist Church and the Prime Timers she also served faithfully in the church nursery for many years.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband of 62 years, Cortez Pumphrey; brother, Winfred Craig; and three sisters, Selma Griffin, Eva Graves and Nina Bates.

Survivors include son, Richard Pumphrey and wife Donna of El Dorado; daughter, Nan Pumphrey McVey of Dallas, TX; granddaughter, Melissa Pumphrey Cary and husband Jeremy of Doyline, LA; great-granddaughter, Taylor Grace Cary of Doyline; brother-in-law, Lavelle Pumphrey and wife Muriel of Paradis, LA; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at First Baptist Church with Dr. Lynn Worthen officiating. Interment will follow at Arlington Memorial Park under the direction of Young’s Funeral Directors.

Visitation will be from 5-8pm Tuesday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 200 W. Main St., El Dorado, AR 71730.
