Margaret Ann Speer Myer, age 81, of El Dorado passed away June 20, 2015. She was born on September 16, 1933 in El Dorado, Arkansas to Margaret "Margie" and Judge William A. Speer. She was their only child. She attended El Dorado public schools and graduated from El Dorado High School in 1951. She attended Texas State College for Women in Denton, Texas and the University of Arkansas, Fayetteville.

Margaret, also known as Margo, married Robert E. Myer, D.D.S. on December 18, 1954 at the First Presbyterian Church in El Dorado. They had one child, a daughter, Mimi Margaret Myer Hurst.

Margaret was involved in the El Dorado community with the Service League and participated in various capacities with the South Arkansas Arts Center Auxiliary, where she served as President in 1977. She was also President of the Arkansas Dental Auxiliary in the 1970s. Always a lover of animals, she was more recently involved and a Board member of the Union County Animal Protection Society (UCAPS).

An active mother in her daughter's life, Margaret was the Camp Fire Girls leader of the Myer Camp Fire Group for eleven years, starting in 1964 when the girls were Bluebirds in the second grade until they graduated High School in 1975. Margaret was close to several of the girls in the Camp Fire Group for years.

She was a Presbyterian and lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church. An active member in the Church for decades, she served as President of the Women of First Presbyterian Church in 1969-70 and was active in circles as circle leader in 1975, sang in the choir and helped with vacation Bible School. She was the first female elected Deacon in 1972.

Margaret was an avid bridge player and still played bridge until she moved to Timberland in February, 2014. One of her life accomplishments was becoming an ACBL Life Master in bridge in 1988.

She will be remembered for both her zest for having fun as well as the ability to express her opinion frankly.

Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, and husband of 55 years, Dr. Bob Myer. She is survived by her daughter, Mimi Myer Hurst and her husband, Joseph Barber Hurst, Jr. and her two grandchildren; Joseph Barber "Hayden" Hurst III and Margaret Myer "Maggie" Hurst.
