Betty Jo Hallum Williams, 82 of Russellville, died Sunday morning, March 18, 2007 in Russellville.
She was born on March 24, 1924 at Appleton to Charles and Ethel Hallum. She married Francis J. Williams on February 15, 1946 and they raised four children, Steve, Dianne, Dwight, and Greg, while living at the University of Arkansas Rice Branch Experiment Station near Stuttgart. They retired to Russellville in 1988.
Prior to her marriage, she was a teacher and worked in an airplance manufacturing plant in Texas during World War II. She was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church in Stuttgart and a current member of the First Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Russellville. She enjoyed reading, sewing, growing and arranging flowers and hosting parties for her friends and for her children and their friends. She was devoted to her husband and spent many years tirelessly caring for him prior to his death in 2001.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; a son, Stephen D. Williams; her brothers, Fed and Billy Don Hallum; and her sisters, Lavern Gilbert and Myrtle Hallum.
She is survived by 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Dwight and Susan Williams of McClellanville, SC, and Greg and Doris Williams of Conway; a daughter, Dianne Williams of Springhill; a daughter-in-law, Eunice Williams of Aheville, NC; 4 granddaughters, Caitlin Williams of Fayetteville, Olivia Williams of St. Mary's,MD, and Hannah and Elise Williams of Conway; 2 sisters-in-law, Bobbye Hallum of Appleton and Vada Henderson of Tennessee; a brother-in-law, Cap Gilbert of Russellville; and many other relatives and friends, including those at the Wildflower Retirement Residence in Russellville.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. on thursday, March 22, 2007, at the Crossroads Cemetery, 5 miles west of Appleton on Hwy 124, with troy Coffman and Rev. Steve Mosley officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service of Russellville.
Pallbearers will be Martha Stroud, Charles Hallum, Don Greenland Jr., Don Greenland III, and Sam Rabeneck.
