James Lewis Cates, 49, El Dorado barber and business man, died suddenly at his home in El Dorado, last Saturday. Born in Hampton, September 16, 1903, the son of Cicero and Bertha Cates, he had lived in EL Dorado the past 25 years. He was owner of the Randolph Barber Shop and the Busy Bee Cafe. He married the former Miss Blanche Womble, January 18, 1923. Other than his widow, he is survived by two sons; Lamar Cates, El Dorado, and Kenneth Cates, Port Arthur, Texas; two grandsons, Donnie and Jimmie Cates of El Dorado, a sister, Mrs. Alma Mabry, Houston, Texas, and his mother, Mrs. Bertha Jinks, El Dorado. Funeral services were held on Monday at the Barton Funeral Home by Rev. E T Carruth, Baptist minister, assisted by Rev. W E Dorman. Interment was in Arling Cemetery in El Dorado.
