Elton James Eugene Sparks, 78, of Huntsville died April 17, 2004. He was accompanied in death by his wife of 61 years, Dorothy Rhea Bolinger Sparks. They were united in marriage on April 28, 1943, in Berryville. Elton was born Oct. 1, 1925, in Kingston, the son of A.D. and Era Stamps Sparks. He was a member and deacon of the Church of Christ in Huntsville. Elton was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran and was the recipient of five Bronze Stars. He enjoyed cooking, fishing, gardening and hunting.
He is survived by two sons, Phil Sparks of Atlanta, Ga., and Jamie Sparks of Huntsville; two sisters, Golda Skaggs of Huntsville and Roberta McElhaney of Peachtree City, Ga.; three granddaughters and four grandsons, Shane Sparks, Kris Sparks, Deanna Sparks and Jarred Sparks of Atlanta, Ga., Sherry Sue Nease of Fort Collins, Colo., Richard Sparks of the U.S. Coast Guard and Kerry Sparks of Fayetteville.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. today at the Church of Christ in Huntsville with Larry Combs, minister officiating. Interment will be in Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home in Huntsville. Pallbearers will be Truman Skaggs, Larry Skaggs, Terry Keeling, Stan Keeling, Wylie Fowler and Wes Fowler.

Dorothy Rhea Bolinger Sparks, 75, of Huntsville, died April 17, 2004. She was accompanied in death by her husband of 61 years, Elton James Eugene Sparks. They were united in marriage on April 28, 1943, in Berryville. Dorothy was born Sept. 12, 1928, at Wharton Creek, the daughter of Dewey and Mildred (Phillips) Bolinger. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Huntsville. She retired from the Madison County Health Department after 20 years of service. Her hobbies included baking, sewing and quilting. She was gifted in writing sincere cards and letters for every imaginable occasion.
She is survived by two sons, Phil Sparks of Atlanta, Ga., and Jamie Sparks of Huntsville; one brother, Howard Bolinger of Huntsville; one sister, Joyce Pike of Portland, Ore.; three granddaughters and four grandsons, Shane Sparks, Kris Sparks, Deanna Sparks and Jarred Sparks of Atlanta, Sherry Sue Nease of Fort Collins, Colo., Richard Sparks of the U.S. Coast Guard and Kerry Sparks of Fayetteville.
