*Obituary
R. Lee McMillian died at the home of his sister, Mrs. Mattie Cantley, in this city last Saturday evening. He was 45 years old and unmarried. Lee was born and raised in this county, being a son of the late Matthew McMillian, but for several years he has lived in Washington. He was a member of Roosevelts Rough Riders during the Spanish-American War, and was in the fight of Juan Hill, where he received a wound in the shoulder. He leaves four brothers, W. A. and T. G. McMillian of this county and Pink McMillian of Lufkin, Texas, G. W. McMillian of Louisiana, and three sisters, Mrs. W. J. Williams of Oakhurst, Texas, Mrs. J. M. Davis of Ruston, La., and Mrs. Mattie Cantley of this city. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. J. A. Parker, and burial was made in the Cantley graveyard a few miles South of town. The many sorrowing relatives and friends have the sympathy of the many readers of the Picayune. (Nevada County Picayune - July 18, 1918)
