William A. Byrd, 76, of Rt.1, El Dorado, died in a local hospital Tuesday morning following a brief illness. He was born March 14, 1889 in Chesterfield, S. C., the son of Shelton and Laura Campbell Byrd. A retired farmer, he had spent most of his working life around the Three Creeks Community. He had been a resident of Union County since 1904. He was a member of the Westside Baptist Church. Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Leta Byrd of El Dorado; four sons, Doyne S. Byrd of Fort Worth, Tex., W. H. Byrd of Smackover, Shelton P. Byrd of Grand Prairie, Tex, and John A. Byrd of Bossier City, La.; two daughters, Mrs. W. R. Crawford of El Dorado and Mrs. L. R. Wilson of Smackover; three brothers, Dave Byrd of Stephens, Stewart Byrd of Gurdon and T. G. Byrd of El Dorado; a sister, Mrs. Tom Wilkerson of Junction City; 15 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at the Westside Baptist Church with the Rev. Lonnie Lassater officiating. He will be assisted by the Rev. W. W. Barron. Interment will be in Arlington Cemetery under the direction of Young's. Pallbearers will be Claude Byrd, Ben Byrd, David Wilson, Gary Williams, Ralph Martin and Jerry Faulkner. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Larkin Wilson, Dr. Paul G. Henley, Ed Terry, Tom Lofton, W. N. Owens and Judge Carlton Jerry. The body will be taken to the church one hour before the service.
