Mrs. Willa Jean "Bill" Smith, 68, of 204 South Gaskill Street, Huntsville, died Aug. 3, 1996, at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale. She was born Oct. 29, 1927, at Huntsville, the daughter of John Thomas and Nora Oneil Parker Withrow. She was a homemaker and a member of the Huntsville Missionary Baptist Church where she served as church hostess. She was a descendant of Richard Withrow for whom Withrow Springs State Park is named. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Miss Mary Lou Withrow on Nov. 26, 1932; and Mrs. Helen Marie Johnson on Oct. 21, 1990.
Survivors include her husband, Afton V. Smith of the home; two sons and daughters-in-law, Rickey D. and Christie Smith of Fort Smith and John Randall and Cathie Smith of Huntsville; one daughter and son-in-law, Susan and Larry Bates of Huntsville; one brother, John T. Withrow Jr. of Huntsville; one brother-in-law, Glyndon Johnson of Huntsville; one nephew, Bobby Johnson of Huntsville; five grandsons, Steve Smith of Huntsville, Tim Smith, Brent Smith and Shane Smith, all of Fort Smith, and Scott Bates of Malvern; three granddaughters, Mrs. Jana Mott of Rogers, Miss Janet Smith and Mrs. Amie Smith, both of Huntsville; one grandson-in-law, Todd Mott of Rogers; and one granddaughter-in-law, Mrs. Esther Bates of Malvern.
Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, in the chapel of Brashears Funeral Home with Rev. Bud Pulley, Rev. Dewey Mott, Rev. E. A. Guinn and Bro. Scott Bates officiating. Interment was in the Huntsville Cemetery under the direction of Brashears Funeral Home.
Pallbearers were Steve Smith, Tim Smith, Scott Bates, Robbie Johnson, Jeff Johnson and Jim Johnson. Honorary pallbearers were Patrick Pulley, Jason Carney, Ed Goff, Roy Struble, Charles Snot, Steve McCoy and Richard Henington.
