Robert L. Vogt, Former City Mayor, Dies At 73

Robert L. Vogt, 73, a former Rogers mayor and area realtor, died Thursday at Rogers Memorial Hospital.

Vogt lived in Rogers for the past 35 years and was the owner of Vogt Realty Company. He was mayor of Rogers from 1947 to 1954. He was born June 7, 1896 in Hamilton, Ohio.

He was active in a number of community, civic and professional activities and was instrumental in funding the Benton County School for Retarded Children at Vaughn.

He served as chairman of the Rogers Board of Public Affairs, was active in scouting and served on the executive board of the State Boy Scouts and was honored with the Silver Beaver Award.

The World War I veteran also held the post of budget committee chairman of the State Department of the American Legion, served on the board of the Salvation, was a member of the Rogers School Board, was a member and former vice president of the Rogers Hospital Board and was a past president of the Rogers Rotary Club.

In addition, he was a past president of the Rogers Insurance Exchange, was a member of the IOOF, DAV, Masons and Rogers Riding Club.

Vogt also was active in the First Baptist Church and was a Sunday School teacher for many years. Church offices held were treasurer, member of budget committee and member of the board of trustees.

Friends may call at Callison Funeral Home chapel from 4 to 9 p.m. today and 9 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Dean Newberry officiating. Interment will be in Benton County Memorial Gardens.

He is survived by his wife, Opha Kennedy Vogt, 1015 West Poplar; two sons, Robert L. Vogt, Jr., Redding, Calif. and James R. Lloyd, Riverside, Calif.; four daughters, Mrs. Joan Grimes, Quanah, Tex., Mrs. Betty Thomas, Rogers, Mrs. Doris Wullwebber, Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Bette Sheppard, Denver, Colo.; one sister, Mrs. L. M. Troxell of Miamisburg, Ohio; sixteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Opha Vogt, formerly of Rogers, died Sunday in Denver, Colo.

She was a longtime resident of Rogers and was the widow of the late R.L. Vogt, former mayor of Rogers.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Martin of Denver, Colo., and Joan Grimes of Quanah, Tex.; and several grandchildren.

Arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Opha Vogt, 76, of Denver, Colo. formerly of Rogers, who died Sunday, will be at 11 a.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church of Rogers with Rev. Ben Rowell officiating.

Burial will be in Benton County Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Callison Funeral Home of Rogers.

Memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
