DUDLEY, Virginia JACKSON – Virginia Jackson, daughter of Judge James Jackson, was born July 30, 1847 about three miles west of Bentonville. On January 9th, 1868 she was married to J.L. Dudley, having until that time remained in the home with her parents. To this union were born two sons, W.T. Dudley and James Dudley, the latter of whom passed to his reward December 17, 1899. Mr. and Mrs. Dudley, after their marriage, settled on a farm southwest of Bentonville where they continued to reside until the death of their son, James. Soon after this bereavement they moved into Bentonville where they both spent the remaining years of life. Early in life, Sister Dudley united with the Cumberland Presbyterian Church of which she was a consistent member until the union of this church with the Presbyterian Church, U.S.A. She did not identify herself with the new organization. She dearly loved the church and faithfully attended the services as long as it was reasonably possible. Her husband, for some 25 years of his later life was an invalid, being seriously afflicted with rheumatism. During these years of suffering, true to the sacred vows of marriage, she patiently waited with him and tenderly cared for him until in June 1916 when he was called to his reward. Sister Dudley enjoyed fairly good health until about three years ago she had a fall which fractured her hip. Since that time her strength has gradually failed and on Lords day, December 7th, at 8:30 p.m. she peacefully fell asleep at her home on West A Street, next door to her surviving son, W.T. Dudley. She was a good woman –a faithful and true wife and one of the very best and dearest of mothers. The funeral services were conducted from the home by Stephen A. Morton, minister, Christian Church, 2:30 p.m. December 8th after which the remains were taken to the cemetery at Centerton for interment. – Stephen A. Morton.
