*Obituary

L.D. Ford, our beloved father, father-in-law and grandfather, age 79 of Russellville, departed this life with his family by his side. Waiting to welcome him home at Heaven's pearly gates were his parents, loving wife, loving son, and his four brothers. A golden heart stopped beating on May 22, 2013 at the Arkansas Hospice River Valley Home.

L.D. Ford was born on November 27, 1933 in Russellville, Arkansas, at home, to Granville Lee Ford Sr. and Sarah Jane Standridge. He was a lifelong resident of Russellville only leaving for a short while, with his oldest brother and wife to go out to California for two years. While in California he worked in Covina at a flower pot factory. Upon returning to Russellville in 1953 he worked for his cousin James Ford, who owned Mack Jolly, delivering furniture and doing whatever else James needed done.

On September 27, 1958 he married the love of his life after only knowing her for two weeks, and was married for 45 years before her death in April 2003. Together they raised their boys in the Center Valley area for 44 years. Shortly after marrying he went to work as a handy man for Charlie Morphis, who owned Waterfall and Lamplighter Trailer Parks. He was employed for 35 years until he was no longer able to work due to the decline in his health.

He was an active member of Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church of God for 31 years where he never missed a Sunday.

There was not a time that you did not go to visit L.D. that there was not a western movie playing on his television. He loved John Wayne, and any cowboy flick for that matter. Friday nights was the highlight of his week, as that was when his great grandson would come to spend the night with him. They could be found cuddling in his chair watching cartoons and eating jello together. Wherever L.D. would go in the home, his great grandson was under tow making sure his "Paw-Paw" was okay. Jonathan was the apple of his paw-paw's eye as well as his other grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He cherished his family, and always knew when something wasn't right. Before his health started declining you could find him tinkering with odd projects, including wood projects. He made bookcases, end tables, wooden paddles with saying on them, little wooden chairs, crosses, and even popsicle airplanes that he gave to his family and friends. He made everything with such dedication and love. He had a smile that lit up the room, and laughter that was contagious. Your smile and laughter are gone forever, and your hand we cannot touch anymore, but we have so many memories of you that we will cherish forever.

L.D. is proceeded in death by his parents, loving wife Dorothy Ford, loving son Jimmy Don Ford Sr.; four brothers and two sister-in law James Ford, Granville Lee Ford Jr. and Reba Harris Ford, Floyd and Mary Ford; and Kennith Ford; one niece Gloria Yvonne Ford, along with several other family members.

Left to cherish his memory are his three sons and daughter-in-law; Billy Ford, David Ford and wife Stacie, and Michael Ford; two granddaughters; Gracie Ford and fiancé Johnathan Cowen and Tammy Ford; one grandson, Jimmy Don Ford Jr.; three great grandsons; Jonathan Brannon, Jordan Ford, and Tyler Gritton; two great granddaughters; Haley and Kristen Howell all of Russellville, Arkansas; one brother-in-law, G.W. (Wathalyn) Shelton of Dover, Arkansas; two sisters-in-law, Alba Ford and Louise (Bob) Carter of Russellville, Arkansas. Special Friends, Charlie and Lila Morphis of Russellville, and Curt and Jeannie Carpenter of Rogers, Arkansas, and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and other family.

Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 28, 2013 at the Amazing Grace Pentecostal Church of God in Dardanelle, Arkansas with the Rev. Johnny Whorton officiating. Burial was followed at Bowden Cemetery in Russellville, AR under the direction of Broussard Funeral Home of Russellville.
