Elmer Griffith, 97, of Fayetteville died Sunday, Sept. 18, 1994, at a local Nursing home.

He was born October 25, 1896, a son of Jay Jay and Molly Jones Griffith.

A life-time resident of Winslow and Fayetteville. He was preceded in death by his wife Mabel Griffith and daughter Myrtle Center.

A Veteran of World War I, serving in France, a past Commander of Veterans of W.W.I Barracks 1786 of Fayetteville.

He was a retired carpenter, stonemason, assistant mail carrier of Winslow Postal service. and constable of Winslow during CCC days.

Worshipful Master of Masonic Lodge 530 (summit Lodge of Winslow). His tenure has been from 1919 as a mason in good standing.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Schauweker of Springdale, Ruby Nobel of Wilkes-Barre, Pa., Carol Talley of Winslow, Jeanette Matzella of LeRoy, MI., and three sons, Earl Griffith of Fort Worth, TX,; Paul Griffith of Winslow, and Tom Griffith of Lowell. Two sisters, Gladys Reed of Fayetteville, Beulah Wagner of Wilkes-Barre, PA.; 22 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, September 21 in the Chapel of Nelson's Funeral Home with The Rev. Roy Biswell and The Rev. Jack Stockburger officiating. Burial will be in Brentwood Cemetery with Masonic Graveside Service. Visitation will be held from 3:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. today at the funeral home. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Nelson's Funeral Home in Fayetteville.

Mrs. Mabel Griffith, 62, of Winslow, died yesterday at Little Rock. Born in Winslow, Aug. 2, 1906, she was the daughter of Lee and Etta Pullum Smith.

She is survived by the husband, J. Elmer Griffith of the home; five daughters, Mrs. Ruby Nobel of Wilkes Barre, Pa., Mrs. Betty Schauwalker of St. Petersburg, Fla., Mrs. Myrtle Center and Mrs. Carol Tolley, both of Winslow, and Mrs. Janet Matzella of LeRoy, Mich.; three sons, Paul and Thomas both or Winslow and Sgt. W.E. Griffith of Okinawa; a brother, Everett Smith of Norwalk, Calif., three sisters, Mrs. Myrtle Drawver of Los Angeles, Calif., Mrs. Anna Stonesifer of Winslow and Mrs. Dovie Shaw of Fort Smith and 16 grandchildren.

Funeral service will he 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Assembly of God Church in Winslow. Burial in Brentwood Cemetery under direction of Nelson's Funeral Home.
