ELM SPRINGS — Louis Vondean "Popee" McFerrin, age 71, of Elm Springs, went home to be with the Lord on Jan. 29, 2002. He was born May 24, 1930, in Kingston to George and Mary Esta McFerrin. He was a Sunday school teacher for the senior adult class at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Springdale, where he became a member in November 1994. Popee was voted Father of the Year in 1999. He also loved to fish with his children and grandchildren.
Vondean was preceded in death by both parents and one brother, James Leonard McFerrin.
Survivors are his wife, Charlene, of the home, to whom he was married in 1948; son, Montie and his wife Tina of Wichita, Kan.; daughter, Connie and her husband Bud Hinkle of Elm Springs; son, Jerry and his wife Susan of Wichita, Kan., son, Tim and his wife Tammle of Elm Springs; one sister, Eulena Casteel; three brothers, Park, Wendell and Carroll, all of Springdale; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild and many friends.
Going home celebration will he Friday at 2 p.m. at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church with the Rev, Clark Snow officiating.
Burial will be in Elm Springs Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale.
Visitation will to from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church, 1000 N. Gutensohn, Springdale.
Pallbearers will be Kent Rogers, Kenneth Freeman, Charlie Edwards, Sam Biswell, Steve Allen and Joey
LaFrance.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jim Swanson, Denver Adams, Leonard Bowen and Jackie Bowen.

SPRINGDALE — Charlene "Nanny" McFerrin, 79, of Springdale died Sunday, June 12, 2011, at Northwest Medical Center. She was born June 27, 1931, in Lowell to Claude and Minnie Maybell Davis Murray.
Mrs. McFerrin was a longtime member of Calvary Freewill Baptist Church and was devoted to the care of her family. She was well-known at the Springdale Senior Center and the local Walmart.
She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. Louis Vondean McFerrin in 2002; a daughter, Connie Hinkle; and two sisters, Evelyn Jones and Betty Bell.
She is survived by three sons, Montie McFerrin and wife Tina of Sylvia, Kan., Jerry McFerrin and wife Susan of Wichita, Kin., Tim McFerrin and wife Tammie of Springdale; one brother, Delvin Murray of Noxon, Mont.; three sisters, Lois Kaszycki of Bentonville, Carolyn Ward of Bella Vista and Dell Boyd of Rogers; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, June 16, at Calvary Freewill Baptist Church in Springdale, with Pastor Clark Snow officiating. Interment will be at Elm Springs Cemetery.
Visitation will be Wednesday from 2 to 7 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Springdale. The family will be present from 5 to 7 p.m. Online condolences may be made at www.heritageofnwa.com.
