Ernest Payne Grigg, 80, of Springdale, died June 13, 2005, in the Veterans Affairs Medical Center. He was born Sept. 29, 1924, in Kingston to Robert Curn and Mary Lou Mitchell Grigg. The family moved to Texas in 1934.

Ernest served in World War II, landing in Normandy on D-Day in 1945. He was awarded the Combat Infantryman's Badge, Purple Heart, Purple Heart with Oak Leaf Cluster, Bronze Star, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal, Sharpshooter's Badge, and the Good Conduct Medal. He served as a squad leader with the 90th Division which campaigned in Normandy, the Rhineland, Northern France and Ardennes.

He returned from the war to Texas, farming for several years, before moving to Rogers in 1954, and raising his family there.

Entering the plastic industry in the 1960s required moving out of state, returning to the area in 1986.

He was preceded in death by three sisters, Delia Smith Crawford, Leora Oliver and Vergie Oliver and two brothers, Houston Grigg and Howard Grigg, both formerly of Springdale.

Survivors include his wife, Myrtle Taylor Grigg of the home; son, Robert Fred and wife Kathy Ramsey Grigg of Springtown; two daughters, Patricia "Pat" Lindsey and husband Norman of Joppa, Ala., and Sandra "Suzy" Higgins and husband Dennis of Springdale; and a special daughter, Sharon Evans and husband Joe of Bentonville. There are nine grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Ernest is survived by three sisters, Marie Oliver, Bernice Teague and Thelma Standifer; one brother, Jess Grigg, all of Texas. He is survived by many nieces and nephews and many other special loved ones.

Pallbearers will be grandsons, Brian Grigg, Allen Grigg, Michael Grigg, Aaron Ward, Aaron Higgins and Henry Lindsey.

Graveside services were requested by Ernest with the
Rev. Aaron Bagwell of Missouri to officiate. Burial services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, June 16 at Elm Springs Cemetery under the direction of Memorial Funeral Home in Springdale. Military honors will be conducted by Northwest Arkansas Honor Guard.

Mr. Grigg will lie in state at the funeral home from 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. today. Service information may be viewed at www.memfuneral.com.
