THATCH, Eliza WHITTLE - Mrs. Eliza Thatch, whose maiden name was Whittle, was born in Sevier County, Tenn. Oct. 8, 1820 and was married to Mr. James Thatch about 1840. James Thatch, her husband, was born in Morgan County, Tenn. in 1818 and died March 22, 1882. They immigrated to Georgia, thence to Arkansas in 1872. They were the parents of 10 children, 7 of whom survive them. They lived a quiet, peaceable, happy life and although not blest with a great deal of the riches of this world yet there was enough for the necessities and comforts of this life and their hearts and hands were ever ready to sympathize with and aid and comfort the needy. It is with reference to mother Thatch that I wish to speak more definitely. She departed this life Nov. 23, 1893. Her death was caused from cancer of the face. She had lived over her three-score years and ten, fifty years of which she had been a faithful follower of her Savior, in whose arms she finally fell asleep. She was blessed during her protracted illness with the tender, affectionate and kind nursing of children, relatives and neighbors, whose kind offices she ever appeared thankful, and when the "fell destroyer" had brought her near the valley and shadow of death, her faith could look beyond the river and with happy, Christian confidence, she could say to her children and friends, "I want you all to live so that you may meet me in Heaven."
