Mother Gertha Birts Oliver was called home to be with the Lord peacefully at home on Friday, January 7, 2011.

She was born July 7, 1914 in Menifee, Arkansas to the union of the late Alexander Birts and Ruthie Talley Birts.

She was the second child born to this union. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Rev. Jesse Manuel Oliver, sister, Essie B. Watson and brothers, Arnette and Garnette Garrett.

Mother Oliver accepted Jesus Christ early in life and became a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church at age 22. She left Menifee, Arkansas and moved to Little Rock, Arkansas due to employment.

She was employed with the Civil Service. She became a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church. While in Little Rock, she later met and married Rev. Jesse Manuel Oliver and then became a member of Greater Archview Baptist Church. She sang in the choir and was a member of the trustee board.

After retirement, she moved back to Menifee, Arkansas and reestablished herself as a resident and member of Philadelphia Baptist Church, where she served on the Mother Board and the Women Mission Society.

Mother Gertha B. Oliver leaves to cherish her memory, a loving and devoted daughter, Margarette G. Oliver of Menifee, Arkansas, one son, Alonzo Milton Watson of Little Rock, Arkansas, thirty-five grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, fifteen great-great-grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She will be missed. Funeral service will be Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Menifee, Arkansas by Wilson & Jarrett Funeral Home of Morrilton, AR. The body will lie in state at the church from 10:00 am-11:00 am on the day of the funeral. Burial will be at the Menifee Community Cemetery, Menifee, Arkansas. Pastor Robert Oliver, Eulogist, Rev. Robert Thompson, Pastor. Pallbearers,Aaron Hood, Terry Coleman, Stanley Morris, Tommy Foster, Neal Hood and Derrick Hammond, Flower Bearers, Mission Society.
