FAYETTEVILLE — Dr. Feng Hou Huang, 81, of Fayetteville, Ark., passed away Friday, Dec. 30, 2011, at the Northwest Medical Center in Springdale.
Feng Hou was born in Pei Tou, Taiwan, on Sept. 23, 1930. He married Su Chu in 1957 in Taiwan and immigrated to the United States in 1965. He attended Colorado State, where he received his master's degree and received his Ph.D. from West Virginia University in 1972.
Feng Hou was a professor emeritus from the University of Arkansas where he taught forest genetics. He was an author, a researcher and speaker.
He was a devoted Christian; loved spending time with his grandchildren, enjoyed gardening, traveling, reading, and health and wellness and was a member of the Fayetteville Rotary. Feng Hou believed in honesty and integrity, and was devoted to both; he was dedicated to giving to others through charities and education.
He is survived by his wife, Su Huang of Fayetteville; two daughters, Linda Freking and husband, Tom, and Tracy Tan, all of Springdale; three grandchildren, Spencer Tan and Mellissa Tan of Springdale and Jennifer Tan of Fayetteville; and two brothers and two sisters in Taiwan.
He was preceded in death by two brothers.
Visitation services will be held 5 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 5, 2012, at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale.
Funeral services will be held at the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Chapel on Friday, Jan. 6, 2012, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Don Edwards will officiate the service with burial being held at the Friendship Cemetery under the direction of the Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home of Springdale.
