Mt. Zion Cemetery
(One-Half Mi. South This Site)
The names and dates on Mt. Zion Cemetery markers reveal only a part of the hardships and tragedies that took place among the pioneer families of this community. Darling and Serena Love, both born in North Carolina, 1815 and settling here in the 1830's certainly were among the earliest settlers. Both with a son and a daughter are buried here. J.R. Oates in a period of ten months (1883-84) buried a wife, a son and a daughter. William Tucker in 1878 brought his bride, Mary Ann Motley, from the Madison Co. and settled here. By 1900 he an two of their children rested in the cemetery. William's mother and widow were buried in Mt. Zion but by 1910, with the coming of modern transportation, Mt. Zion became a cemetery of the past.

*Directions: From Russellville take South Arkansas Avenue to Highway 247 and turn left, follow highway 247 till you see Mt. Zion Cemetery Road, turn right, cemetery is on the left at the end of this road.
