HUMPHREYS, Elizabeth Josephine GARRITY - Elizabeth Josephine Garrity, youngest of a family of six children composing the happy family of John and Bridget Garrity who formerly lived near Brightwater in this county, died at her home in Mildred, Kansas after a brief illness on January 24, 1912, leaving a husband in sorrow and a sweet little babe of two weeks to the tender hands of living kindred. Lizzie, as she was familiarly known among her many friends, was born near Brightwater May 1st, 1884. At the age of six years she became a member of the family of T.O. Tucker and wife for the purpose of attending school. She lived with her elder sister, Mrs. Tucker, for ten years, during which time she attended school and a part of the time was a student at Bentonville Academy under the tutorship of the writer. During this time Lizzie always acquitted herself with credit and consideration; always affable and generous, forgetful of little discourtesies; loving and loved among her school mates and devoted to her work. Her ambition was to excel without taking advantage of her classmates; to become intellectually strong without doing any semblance of injustice to another. She was married to Carl N. Humphreys Dec. 25th, 1910 and the short span of life left to her from that time to her death was given in earnest labor in making her husband a happy home, in shedding sunshine upon her friends and neighbors, ever mindful of her former friends and benefactors. She was tenderly conveyed to the cemetery in Rogers where she was placed in the silent company of her parents, each of whom had departed this life not long before. What remains of this once happy and unbroken family now seems but a remnant, mother, father, sister gone. Respectfully dedicated to Mr. and Mrs. Tucker. W.T.M.
