Howard J. Medley was the son of James Larson Medley and Mary Jemima Gooch Medley, who are both buried in Missouri.
Obituary - Sent to the Editor of the Jefferson County Democrat newspaper by his father, James Larson Medley, from Hickory Plains, Arkansas.

I write to apprise you of the death of my son, Howard J. Medley who died March 4, 1900 at Hickory Plains, Ark. after a short illness of meningitis. He died four days of being 21 years old. He was born and reared at my former home near Hematite and was well known and universally liked. He moved with me (his father) brother and two sisters to Hickory Plains September 22, 1898. My daughter Annie died ten days after moving here on the 2nd of October 1898. Howard was laid to rest beside his sister Annie in the Hickory Plains Cemetery. The rest of the family is well and are pleased with our new home.
