LENOX, Susan Elizabeth WARD - Susan Elizabeth Lenox, widow of Dr. W.H. Lenox, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Edna Whitredge, 608 West 3rd, Little Rock at 9 a.m. Sunday, July 23 at the age of 82. Mrs. Lenox was born in Milan, Tenn. January 23, 1840 and moved to Arkansas with her parents. J.W. and Nancy Ward, in 1853, locating in Cleburne county. She was married to Dr. Lenox in 1867 and they lived in Independence county were Dr. Lenox practiced medicine, later moving to Rogers, Benton county. Six children were born to them: Frank, who died in infancy; Dr. Shelby L., who died in 1910; and surviving are Mrs. Laura Winn, Emporia, Kan.; Mrs. Florence 0. Frazier, Mrs. Edna Whitredge and Mrs. Pearl Oakley of Little Rock; also Mrs. Eurie Cady, Rogers, Ark.; Thelma, Mildred and Shelby Lenox, Little Rock, grandchildren. Three brothers, R.A. Ward, Searcy; J.T. Ward, Bradford and J.D. Ward, Floral, Ark., also survive. Services were held at 608 West 3rd at 3 p.m. Monday, conducted by Dr. John W. Teas, Conway, Ark., of the Christadelphian faith, and the remains were brought to Rogers Tuesday and burial was in the Rogers cemetery with Rev. J.W. Shockley, pastor of the Christian church, in charge. Older residents will remember Mrs. Lenox, who with her husband resided here a number of years while he practiced medicine and it was during this time that he and his son-in-law, Dr. Brown, deceased, erected a sanitarium, now known as the Tourist Hotel.
