Clifford Smoke, age 77, of Russellville, died Wednesday, October 6, 2010 at Baptist Health Medical Center in Little Rock. A son of the late James Louis and Thelma B. Corbin Smoke, he was born November 4, 1932 at Magnet Cove, Arkansas. He was retired from the Missouri Pacific Railroad where he had served as a clerk for over thirty years, was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War, a member of the Mount Zion Baptist Church in Malvern and attended First Baptist Church in Russellville. He volunteered at the Senior Adult Center for over 13 years, and loved to knit, making scarves and assisting the Senior Citizens Center in making baby caps for Saint Mary’s Regional Medical Center. He was one of the biggest sports fanatics ever, and enjoyed sharing trivia with his family and friends. He was also preceded in death by a son, Kim Smoke; three brothers, Dude Smoke, John L. Smoke and an infant brother; and a sister, Betty Clemons.
Survivors include his wife of almost 55 years, Betty Smoke; a son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Rena’ Smoke of Russellville; a brother, Leon Smoke of Hot Springs; two sisters and a brother-in-law: Dorine and Dave Weinger of Maryland; and Georgia Mae Rogers of Malvern; two grandchildren and their spouses: Michelle and Andy Berry and Michael and Lindsey Sutterfield, all of Russellville; and a great-granddaughter, Emilee Berry.
The funeral service was at 2 P.M. on Friday, October 8, 2010 at the Shinn Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Tom Walker and the Rev. Stephen Davis. Burial will be in Rest Haven Memorial Park, by Shinn Funeral Service.
Active pallbearers will be James Chancellor, Gerald Chancellor, Danny Jones, John Lonon, Matt Moore and Tim Murdoch. Honorary pallbearers will be Andy Berry and Gene Ringhardt.
The family received friends on Thursday evening, from 5 to 7 P.M., at the funeral home.
