Audie Ballinger, age 87, a resident of Russellville, died Saturday, July 17, 2004, at Saint Mary's Regional Medical Center in Russellville. He was born November 27, 1916, at Gabriel, in Pope County, to the late Rufus and Bell Cross Ballinger. He retired from Sharp's Army Depot; was a member of the First Assembly of God in Russellville; and was a United States Army veteran of World War II, having received 4 Bronze Medals, the Purple Heart, and the Good Conduct Medal. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Ballinger who he married October 16, 1948; a brother, Eli Ballinger; and 2 sisters, Lucille Standridge and Pearly Ballinger.

Survivors include a son, Tim Cartwright of Sacramento, California; a daughter, Cindy Wilson of Stockton, California; a cousin, Elese Willey of Russellville; 4 grandchildren; 4 great grandsons; numerous nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.

Graveside service was at 10 a.m. Tuesday, July 20, 2004, at Rest Haven Memorial Park at Russellville under the direction of Shinn Funeral Service.

Military honors will be provided by V. F. W. Rogers-Rye Post 2283 Honor Guard.
