Donald Wayne Sloan, 68, of Russellville, died peacefully Monday, November 26, 2012,at his home and surrounded by his family. The son of Melvin and Gertie Elizabeth Brents Sloan, he was born February 20, 1944 in Richmond, CA. He was a 1962 graduate of Flag Staff High School in Flag Staff, AZ and received a B.S. at Chapman College in Oceanside, CA and a Masters Degree in Psychology from UCA in Conway.

Donald served for 17 years in the U. S. Marine Corps and was a Veteran of the Vietnam War during which he served on the USS Ticonderoga.

He believed in life-long education and was currently enrolled as a student at ATU taking classes in history and political science.

He was a founding member and Commandant of the Dardanelle Chapter 1310 of the Marine Corps League and, a member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was a Leader with Boy Scout Troop #202. An active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Russellville, he was a visiting teacher, a family history consultant for the genealogy library and a counselor in the Bishopric. He enjoyed meteorology, airplanes and football.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Anna Patterson Sloan, 2 brothers, 2 sisters, and an infant sister.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Lanoy Sloan, Russellville; a son, Edward Sloan, Russellville; 4 daughters, Marjorie Widmer (John), Rifle, CO, Billie Jo Arens (Anthony), Eagle River, AK, Rebecca Passmore (Revel), Vilonia, AR, Melissa Uptain, Russellville; 31 Grandchildren; 3 great Grandchildren.

Funeral will be at 10:00AM, Saturday, December 1, 2012 at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints (Mormon Church). Elder B.J. Stokes will officiate.

Burial will be at Rest Haven Memorial Park in Russellville, by Humphrey Funeral Service, Inc. Full military honors will be provided by the Rogers-Rye Post #2283 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Photograph courtest of:
