On Monday February 5, Mary Ernestine Haag Shannon, 82, of Choctaw, Arkansas was reunited with her two most precious loves: her Father in Heaven and her husband Sam, to whom she was married for 63 years. Their earthly separation had been only 8 months. "Nanny", as she was affectionately known, was born September 10, 1924, in Nettleton, Arkansas. She graduated from Arkansas State College High School in Jonesboro. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest H. and Nellie Seymour Haag, a brother William Haag, and sister Alma Rice. Moving to Pine Bluff in 1949, she worked for the American Red Cross and was an active community worker. After coming to Clinton in 1962, she was a member of the Clinton Business and Professional Women's club, and the Iris Garden Club where she had served as president. She and husband Sam were also members of the Greers Ferry Lake Association. She was an active member in the Choctaw Church of Christ and the ladies Thursday morning class. For many years she worked at Shannon's Supply, the family owned hardware and lumber company. Following her love of art and design, she created her own business Shannon's Flowers and Gifts where she spent years honing her floral design skills. Not only could she make masterpieces for her customers homes, she was able to provide hours of consolation, counsel and encouragement. She was a blessing for all who entered her little shop. Although her interests were varied, the main focus of her life was to care and uplift her physical family. She gave unconditional love and shared quietly the wisdom of countless hours of Bible study. The benefactors of this wisdom were her surviving family: a sister, Katie Jackson, two sisters-in-law: Marie Edwards and Kayrene Shannon, two sons: Robert and wife Donna Shannon of Hot Springs, Sam Jr. and wife Becky Shannon of Choctaw, her 9 grandchildren: Mollie and husband Randy Franks, Kellie and husband Carl Miller, Sam III and wife Tara Shannon, Robert Shannon Jr., Jon Shannon, Julie Shannon Quattlebaum, Lee Shannon, Heidi and husband Chad Meins, and Hunter Shannon, 6 great-grandchildren: Shannon and husband Tim Jordan, Joe Franks, Kayleigh Morgan, Nash and Landry Miller, Kyzer Quattlebaum and Sadie Shannon, I great-great grandchild Connor Duvall, her precious church family, nieces and nephews and all those she has adopted into her heart and home as family. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice, VBC Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, Choctaw Food Bank or the Choctaw Church of Christ Mexico Mission Ministry.
