Woman Slain by Son-In-Law----Monroe County Farmer Said to Have Been Drinking, Held.---Brinkley, Dec. 21--(Special)--Devey Crawford, age 25, who Monday night shot and fatally wounded his mother-in-law Mrs. Minnie Chitty, age 55, a widow, in whose home he lived, was in the county jail at Clarendon, awaiting a hearing. Crafford made no statement when arrested. He is said to have been intoxicated and the shooting followed a quarrel. The woman was shot twice through the body. She was brought here and had been placed in an ambulance to be taken to Memphis, when she died between 9:30 and 10 o'clock last night. The shooting occurred on a farm near Saulsbury, 15 miles north of here. Crafford is said to have surrendered after the shooting, or at least made no resistance. He and his wife were members of the family at the Chitty home. His wife had been taken to a hospital several days ago. Mrs. Chitty is survived by two sons and two daughters.
