Robert the son of Clarence Winslow Bruce and Mabel Elizabeth (Moore) Bruce. Winona the daughter of Federal 'Fred' Dolph Durfee and Allie BelleĀ (Crabtree) Christenberry Durfee.

POWHATAN - Winona D. Bruce, 85, of Powhatan died Monday, April 12, 2004, in a Jonesboro nursing home.

Born in Saffell, she lived most of her life in Powhatan and retired after 38 years with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Farm Service Agency in Lawrence County.

She was the former postmaster at Saffell and at that time was said to be the youngest postmaster in the United States. She was a member of Powhatan United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Michael Bruce of Jonesboro and Wally Bruce of Houston; five grandchildren, Seth Bruce, Adam Bruce, Andrew Bruce, Kimberly Richey and Brian Huff; and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert A. Bruce.

The graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Lancaster Cemetery in Strawberry with the Rev. Jerry Pentecost officiating. Arrangements are by Gregg Funeral Home of Jonesboro.

Pallbearers will be Seth Bruce, Adam Bruce, Andrew Bruce, Brian Huff, Chris Richey and David Tyler.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials may be made to the Powhatan United Methodist Church.
