Gwendolyn Joyner Southerland, 91, of Conway, Arkansas died Monday, March 25 in North Little Rock. Gwen was born on December 4, 1921 in Bee Branch, Arkansas to the late Virgil Clifford and Margaret Johnson Joyner. She graduated from Southside High School in Bee Branch and moved to Conway to attend Arkansas Cosmetology School. She married the late Clarence Herman Southerland in Conway February 3, 1944 and together they owned the Conway Hatchery. Gwen later retired from Florsheim (SAS) Shoe Company. Gwen was a life-long member of Pickles Gap Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband Clarence, infant son Ronald David, son Thomas Clarence, and siblings Helen Maureen Depner, Thomas Edwin Joyner, and Geraldine Clements.

She is survived by her two daughters and their husbands, Patricia Katherine and William H. Moffeit of Carrollton, Georgia, and Sandra Gail and William B. Carson of North Little Rock; three grandchildren Dwight Thomas Southerland of Flippin, Arkansas, Lisa Moffeit of Seattle, Washington, and Lori Moffeit Keeney and her husband Sean of Apex, North Carolina; and two great-grandchildren Ian Patrick and Kira Leigh Keeney.
Visitation will be 11:30am-1:30pm, Wednesday, March 27; Graveside service will follow at 2:00pm in Macedonia Cemetery in Conway, Arkansas, with Reverend John Evans officiating. Special thanks to Robinson Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and Odyssey Hospice for their care.
