Gerald Junior Melton of Melbourne, Arkansas

Gerald Junior Melton, son of the late Oscar Melton and Sudie Morgan Melton, was born June 6, 1936 in Brockwell, Arkansas. He departed this life November 13, 2013 in Lawson, Missouri at the age of 77 years, 5 months and 7 days. He was united in marriage to Virginia Blanchard on October 17, 1953 in Senath, Missouri. A few years after the death of Virginia, he was married to Mary Banning and relocated to Lawson, Missouri. During his working years, he was employed as an operator at a hydroelectric plant in Holtville, California, retiring after 31 years of employment. He was of the Baptist faith, serving as a deacon at First Southern Baptist Church in Holtville, California and Midway Baptist Church in Melbourne. At the time of his death he attended the Assembly of God Church in Lawson, Missouri.

He is survived by his wife: Mary Melton of Lawson, Missouri; two daughters: Diana Wyatt and her husband Doyle of Melbourne and Teresa Melton of LaQuinta, California; two stepsons: Don Banning and wife Kay of Kansas City, Missouri and Dale Banning and wife Tamera of Lawson, Missouri; one granddaughter: Ashly Kimble of Melbourne; five step grandchildren: Melissa Fortner (Brandon) of Kansas City, Missouri, Jessica Bozart (Jason) of Kansas City, Missouri, Phillip Banning (Shawna) of Bakersfield, California, Shannon Vellejo (Julian) of Kansas City, Missouri and Amanda McNary (Josh) of Kansas City, Missouri; 11 great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and many good friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife: Virginia Melton; two infant daughters; two brothers; three sisters and one step granddaughter: Michelle Caton.

Funeral service will be Saturday, November 16 at 10:00 a.m. at Howard Memorial Funeral Chapel with Gene Baird officiating. Burial will be at Shavers Campground Cemetery under the direction of Eddie's Family Funeral Home in Melbourne, Arkansas. Visitation will be Friday, November 15 from 6-8 p.m.
