James Virgil Ferrell, 89 of Springdale passed away April 20, 2005. He was born Dec. 12, 1915, in Clinton (Van Buren County), on Archy Creek, RR, the son of James W. and Florille Barnett Ferrell. He married Juanita Patton on May 11, 1946. He was preceded in death by his brother, Elmer and two sisters, Bessie Isom Kirmendoll and Essle Scott, all of Clinton; one niece, Marie of New York state.
He was a veteran of World War II, a motor sergeant with Company D, 2nd Infantry Division. He received five Bronze Stars for service in Normandy, North France, Rhineland, Central Europe and Arennes, Nov. 17, 1941, Roberson. Ark., 1945 Jefferson Barracks, Mo. He was a farmer and a logger. After moving to Springdale in 1958, he worked for Whillock Furniture Co. and Tyson Foods before retiring in 1977.
Survivors include his wife, Juanita Ferrell of the home; two sons, Danny and wife Nancy, Donald and wife Betty; four granddaughters, Rebecca, Karen and Linda, all of Springdale, Christy of Lakeland, Fla.; one niece, Dorothy of New York state; three great-grandchildren, Audrey, Dustin and Andrew, all of Springdale; several stepgrandchildren; and stepgreat-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 23 at Backstrom-Pyeatte Funeral Home in Springdale with the Rev. Dennis Artman and the Rev. Michael Sherry officiating. Burial will be in Bluff Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Luther Patton, Jessie Patton, Melton Briscoe, Steve Roberts, Tommy Holman and Jim Holman.
Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Artman, Ed Canard, Howard Moore, Coy Patton and Thomas Barnett.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. The family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m.
Memorials may be made to Circle of Life Hospice, Springdale.
