Jan 1, 1929 - June 3, 2012 OKLAHOMA CITY Joe A Staats, age 83, died June 3, 2012. He was born January 1, 1929, to Fredrick V & Golva Stinnett Staats at Wanette, OK. He attended schools in Pottawatomie, Garvin, Cleveland and Oklahoma Counties, graduating from Central High School in Oklahoma City.Joe spent 20 years in the US Navy, serving in the Marshall Islands, the USS Yorktown, the USS Ranger and the USS Enterprise. Shore duty was at NATTC Memphis, TN and NAS North Island, San Diego, CA. He retired as a Senior Chief Aviation Structural Mechanic in 1966. He then worked for GE, Honeywell and Control Data as a sheet metal fabrication shop manager, retiring in 1987. He taught aircraft structural repair at the Tinker AFB Vo-Tech for a number of years. He also performed rental equipment repair for Marianne's Rentals.Joe was married to his wife, Retha Marie Fanning, for 47 years, 10 months until her death in 2002. They had no children.He is survived by several cousins, among whom are David Allen of Stratford, OK; and Judith Belden of Norman, OK; a niece, Natalie Davis of Knoxville, TN; and a nephew, James H. Fanning of Little Rock, AR; and a special friend, Mary Lou Hampton of Oklahoma City.A memorial service will be held June 6th at 2 o'clock at the Mayfair Church of Christ, where Joe has been a faithful member for many years. Burial will be at the Hunter Hill Cemetery in Clinton, AR.
