Dr. Roger F. Cox, 80, of Siloam Springs died Wednesday, Nov. 16, 1994, at Siloam Springs Memorial Hospital.

Born Sept. 21, 1914, at Red Cloud, Minn., the son of Walter C. and May L. Cooley Cox, he had the longest period of service in the history of John Brown University. He started at JBU in 1936 as a mathematics instructor, served as registrar from 1950 to 1969 and was academic dean from 1969 to 1975. He returned to teaching mathematics from 1975 until his retirement in 1980.

Cox received his bachelor's degree from John Brown University, his master's degree from Oklahoma State University and his doctorate from the University of
Arkansas. Cox was a member of the John Brown Alumni Association and Phi Delta Kappa. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Siloam Springs and had been a Siloam Springs resident since 1936.

Survivors are his wife, Annie Lee Woodward Cox of the home; two sons, Roger Cox Jr. of Chino Hills, Calif., and Michael Cox of Springdale; two daughters, Eugenia Jones of Sapulpa, Okla., and Mary Ellen Mathers of Austin, Texas; and five grandchildren.

The funeral will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Cathedral of the Ozarks at John Brown University with Dr. Audrey Thomas and the Rev. William Cheyne officiating. Burial will be in the Gentry Cemetery under the direction of the Wasson Funeral Home.
