Melvin A. (Allen) Gray, 75, of Granite City, Illinois, died at 2:40 a. m., Saturday, Sept. 17,1994, at St. Elizabeth Medical Center following an eight year illness.

Born Aug. 5, 1919 in Marmarth, Slope County, ND, he had been a resident of Granite City since 1925. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Army and a machinist with the Terminal Railroad Association in St. Louis for 40 years before retiring in 1979. He was a member of Central Christian Church.

Survivors include two sons, Don and Gerald Gray, both of Granite City; two daughters, Betty Mallette of Clarksville, TN and Vivian Dix of Batchtown, IL; two brothers, David Gray of Red Lodge, Montana and Jess Gray of Salt Lake City, UT; one sister, Harriett Travis of Stewart, TN, eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Kathryn(LaRoe) Gray, who died in Jan. 1992; his parents James P. and Margaret (Swanson) Gray; one sister and two brothers.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Rd., in Granite City with the Rev. Jerry Cowin officiating. Burial will be in Arkansas.
