LAYMAN, William - William Layman was born at Litchfield, Ky. September 16, 1842 and died at Rogers, Ark. June 1, 1924 at the age of 81 years, 8 months and 15 days. He served in the Civil War in Co. K, Illinois Volunteers Infantry and marched with General Sherman to the sea. This experience was cherished by him as one of the outstanding features of his life. On September 1, 1868 he was married to Miss Anna Davis and to this union were born five children, all of whom are living, and with the exception of one, Mrs. W.J. Sears of Stockton, Calif., were present at the funeral. The children are: Mrs. B.F. Bryant and Mrs. Belle Henderson, Rogers; W.C. Layman, Standard, Calif.; Mrs. W.J. Sears, Stockton, Calif.; M.F. Layman, Everton, Ark. Just three weeks ago his wife passed away and one may consider it a peculiar experience when it is made known that his parents passed away in a similar way as also did a brother and his wife. Mr. Layman was very familiar with Rogers citizens, having lived here for many years and his passing away is just strengthening the bond in the Eternal Home. Funeral services were conducted by Rev. Lucke at the First M.E. Church Monday afternoon and interment was in Rogers cemetery.

LAYMAN, Anna Elizabeth DAVIS - Anna Elizabeth Davis was born in Warsaw, Gallatin Co., Ky. Dec. 26, 1844 and while still a very small child her parents moved to Switzerland Co., Ind. where she grew to young womanhood. Later they went to Jasper Co., Ill. where on Sept. 1, 1868 she was married to William Layman. To this union were born five children: W.C. Layman of Standard, Calif.; Rev. M.F. Layman, Everton, Ark.; Mrs. W.J. Sears of Stockton, Calif.; Mrs. B.F. Bryant and Mrs. Belle Henderson of Rogers, all of whom were with her during her last days. She is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister. In 1885 the family moved to Rogers where they have since made their home. Mrs. Layman joined the church when eight years old and a better example of a consistent Christian would be difficult to find. She was devoted to her home and family and was always ready to do a deed of kindness to a neighbor or friend and it is no wonder that the children tried in every way to make the remaining days of their mother as pleasant as possible. Only the day before her passing away she seemed so much better and joined in one of the most pleasant visits that had been had in several years since all the children arrived. Easter was the last Sunday she was permitted to be at church and she quietly slipped away at the beginning of Mother's Day, May 11th. Funeral services were held at the First M.E. church Monday afternoon at 2:30 May 12th and was conducted by her pastor, Rev. R.C. Lucke, with interment in the Rogers cemetery.
