Jewel Shipman, 76, of Mtn. View entered into rest on October 6, 2009 in Mountain View.

Jewel was born February 16, 1933 to William Jasper and Lillie (Balentine) Shipman in Fifty Six.

He was a member First United Methodist Church, Mtn. View. He worked as a car salesman for over 25 years and owned and operated Western Auto for twelve years. He was on the City Council and worked with the Cub Scouts.

He is survived by his wife, Jane Shipman of the home; children David Shipman and wife Daya of Jonesboro, Bruce Shipman of Mtn. View, Connie Haney and husband Tim of Fifty Six and Paulette Teague and husband Jim of Lawrence, Kansas; one brother, Eugene ‘Buster’ Shipman of Fifty Six; three sisters, Alma Lee Sutterfield and husband Frank and Betty Hampton all of Fifty Six, Meladean Petersen and husband Gene of Mtn. View; grandchildren, Mark Haney of Fifty Six, Travis Haney of Mission, KS, Jessica Stewart of Lawrence, KS, Austin Shipman, Morgan and Bailey McAlexander all of Jonesboro, Logan, Rylee and Joshua Shipman all of Mtn. View; and great-grandchildren, Austin and Madison Haney and Parker and Adlee Stewart and many loving relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Jasper and Lillie (Balentine) Shipman, two brothers, Verlin and Merlin Shipman and three sisters, Zelenora Shipman, Iva McCook and Ina Pendergraft.

Visitation is 5 – 8 p.m., Wednesday, October 7, 2009 at Roller Crouch Chapel, Mtn. View.

Funeral service is 2 p.m., Thursday, October 8, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church, Mtn. View with Bro. Larry Shipman and Pastor Steve Johnson officiating with interment in Fifty Six Cemetery, Fifty Six, Arkansas.

Pallbearers are Leon Shipman, Earnest Shipman, Don Shipman, Terry Sutterfield, Alan Pogue and Scott Phillips. Honorary pallbearers are Brady Smith, H.D. Perry, Danny Sartain, Brett Farris, Tate Lawrence and Doug Miller.
