Mr. Banton was born in Cherry Valley, the son of Emmett and Emma (Lyles) Banton. He was a retired Veterans Administration counselor for the past 20 years and former minister of Baptist churches in Arkansas. He was a US Navy veteran of the Japan Occupation and the Korean War.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: Marvin and James Banton; a sister: Louise (Banton) Alley.
Survivors include his wife: Joann Banton of Benton; one step-daughter: Donna and husband David Allen of El Dorado; a brother: Gene Banton of Memphis, Tn.; a sister: Jane (Banton) Smith of Millington, Tn.; two granddaughters: Amanda Crotty and Amy Allen; one great-granddaughter: Maggie Crotty.
