CLINTON – Allen Andrew Jackson Bonds, 95 of Clinton passed from this life on Wednesday, October 10, 2012 at the Ozark Nursing Home in Clinton, Arkansas. “Jack” was born to Johnny Daniel Bonds and Mary Tennessee (Reeves) Bonds on January 3, 1917 on Holly Mountain, where he spent nearly his entire life, raising his family, farming and loving his mountain. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Nettie (Treadaway) Bonds, one son, John Russell Bonds, two infant granddaughters, Kelleyanne Weaver and Michelle Bonds, five sisters, Rosa King, Anna Weaver, Zona Harness, Effie Harness and Jewell Huyck; two brothers, Kelly Bonds and Leonard Bonds.
Jack was a Christian, a member of the Corinth Baptist Church, where he also received an 8th grade education, a retired businessman, having owned a live haul trucking company for nearly 40 years, a farmer and cattle rancher for all of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, having served his country in the Army’s 117th Infantry as a combat infantryman in Germany and Central Europe. He received a Good Conduct Medal, an EAME Theater Ribbon and three Bronze Service Stars. He chose not to speak about his time spent as a soldier.
He served as a trustee at Corinth Baptist Church, a past Member of the local Farm Bureau Board and served on the Van Buren County Memorial Hospital Maintenance Board for several years. He loved and was active in local politics.
He is survived by his children, Jackie Bonds, Ann (Richard) Weaver, Maurice (Tim) Whillock and Earnest Bonds, all of Clinton, Arkansas. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Paul Weaver, Leisa (Raymond) Stringer, Allen Weaver, John Bonds, Brian (Mindy) Stoltzfus, Earl (Lisa) Bonds, Kim (Russ) Weedin, Justin Bonds, Vince Bonds, James Bonds, Kerrie (Ethan) Baker, Derek Bonds, Andrew Bonds, Daniel Bonds, Rod (Michelle) Stoltzfus, Wendy (Gary) Quam and Michael (Shannon) Whillock, two brothers, Lloyd (Sally) Bonds and Bill (Jo) Bonds of Clinton, 1 brother-in-law, Thermon (Lillian) Treadaway, and 29 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Jack’s family wishes to thank the staff at the Ozark Health Nursing Center and to express their deepest gratitude and appreciation to them for their compassionate and loving care while he was a resident at the Center.
A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 13, 2012 at the Corinth Baptist Church, Holly Mountain Road, Clinton, Arkansas, at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will begin at 1:00 P.M. at the Church prior to the memorial service. Bro. Wylie Hardin and Bro. Bobby Ward will conduct the service. Interment will follow at the Holly Mountain Cemetery. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Holly Mountain Cemetery Fund, 310 Greentree Road, Clinton, Arkansas, or to the Arkansas Baptist Children’s Home, 10 Remington Dr., Little Rock, AR 72204, or to a charity of your choice.
