A. A. “Kit” Carson of Beebe, Arkansas, was born January 20, 1911, at Gravel Hill, Arkansas, to Joseph W. and Eliza L. Quattlebaum Carson, and he died Wednesday, July 14, 2004. In May of 1931, he married Mary Annie Price. When Mrs. Carson died in 1993, they were nearing their 62nd wedding anniversary.

In 1944, Kit volunteered for the U.S. Army and was stationed in Germany until the German surrender in May, 1945. He returned to his Gravel Hill community where he began his career in the cattle business. In 1951, he formed a partnership with V.C. White and moved to Beebe where the two of them opened a livestock auction. Eventually the auction was sold and in the late 1950’s, Kit became a dairy cattle dealer. He was responsible for assisting in the development of the dairy industry in White County. After retirement, he continued to run a small herd of cattle until age 88 when his health would no longer permit his working.

Mr. Carson was very active in the Beebe community serving many years as a city councilman and as “acting” mayor during the 1970’s due to the resignation of the city’s elected mayor. He has been a member of both Beebe Lions Club and Kiwanis Club. He also served on the Beebe School Board for several years acting as its president for some of his terms.

He was a member of First Baptist Church where he was a deacon emeritus. In May 2000, he was honored as the oldest male member of the church. When asked what he contributed to his longevity, he responded “Hard work and good clean living”. He based his life upon serving his family, his community, his country and his God.

Kit is survived by one daughter, Carroll Snider and her husband, Dickie, of Miami, Florida; two grandsons, David Carson and his wife, Rhonda, of Hodgenville, Kentucky and Steve Carson of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Ronie Bailey of Jacksonville, Arkansas; two step-grandchildren, Sandra Petrus of Ft. Smith, Arkansas and Randall Snider of Carlisle, Arkansas; seven great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends and his Church family.

Visitation will begin Noon Thursday at Westbrook Funeral Home, Beebe, with family receiving friends from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friday, July 16, 2004. Funeral will be 2:00 P.M. Saturday, July 17, 2004, at First Baptist Church, Beebe, with burial in Quattlebaum Cemetery, Gravel Hill, Arkansas.
