Dorothy “Jo” Donoho Davis of Little Rock, AR passed away peacefully Friday, November 20, 2009.

Jo, a gracious southern lady, was guided by her faith and love of God. Her family and friends were richly blessed by her kind and loving spirit. She viewed every day as a joyful opportunity to live, love, and learn.

She was the beloved mother of Deborah D. Wetzel of Little Rock, AR, Guy Michael Davis and wife

Mica of Little Rock, AR. Grandchildren, Richard James Orintas, Jr. of Houston, TX, Joseph Andrew Wetzel II of Santa Monica, CA, William Jacob Wetzel, of Nashville, TN, Taylor Michele Davis, Kori Ann Davis, Clay Michael Davis, and Cole William Davis of Little Rock, AR.

Jo was born in Kingston, IL on December 7, 1926. She is preceded in death by her parents Earnest and Anna Donoho, brothers Harding Donoho, Albert D. Donoho, Sylvester Buddy Donoho, Toivo Donoho, Dewayne Donoho, and sister Marie Donoho Parks. Brother Lemuel Donoho of San Jose, CA. is her only surviving sibling.

Known for her tireless work ethic, Jo rose to every challenge with pride and purpose. Among her many church and civic activities was her membership in the Women’s Emergency Committee to Open Our Schools, a committee that publicity condemned the 1958 Little Rock High School closings. Jo was a deaconess at First Christian Church, counselor for CHI RHO Senior High Group, member of the Bethany Sunday School Class, and the ART Club.

Jo had an accomplished nursing career, retiring as Director of Nursing at the Pleasant Valley Living Center in 1996. During her long career she was associated with the Visiting Nurse Association of Arkansas, Living Hope Psychiatric Unit at Doctors Hospital, New Day Outpatient Care, and St. Vincent Hospital. She earned her R.N. Degree from University of Arkansas at Little Rock and was a graduate of Harding Academy in Searcy, AR.

After retiring, Jo had the time to fully embrace her passion for landscaping and gardening, transforming her home into a beautiful sanctuary and true reflection of her life. An excellent southern cook, she enjoyed entertaining family and friends often. She was also well known for being an expert seamstress constantly designing and creating new fashions and home accessories.

Pallbearers will be Barry Monahan of Chicago, IL, Gerald E. Hannahs, Terry Clawitter, Wes Henderson of Little Rock, AR, Richard Orintas, Joseph Wetzel, and Jacob Wetzel.

A celebration of her life will begin with visitation from 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at the Ruebel Funeral Home. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 11:00 a.m. at the First Christian Church, Little Rock, AR officiated by Pastor Kevin Robbins and Reverend David King. Interment will follow at the Massey Cemetery in Opal, AR.
