James R. ‘Jim' Whitfield, 82, of Mountain View, Arkansas went to be with the Lord February 27, 2011 in Mtn. View, Ar.
He was born November 30, 1928 in Pineville near Calico Rock, Arkansas to Herman and Ada Richardson Whitfield.
He was preceded in death by his parents Herman and Ada Whitfield, a sister Daisy Majors, an infant brother and infant sister.
He was a member of Foothills Baptist Church where he served as a deacon until his health failed three years ago. He was a kind, soft-spoken, humble man always serving those in need.
Mr. Whitfield retired from Target Distribution Center of Maumelle, Arkansas in 1992. During his 11 years with Target he built a reputation in the trucking and dispatch community throughout Arkansas and the southwest as one of the best in the business. He had nearly 30 years in the industry and was responsible for single-handily setting up the dispatch operation at Maumelle, Arkansas.
He leaves behind his loving wife of 63 years, Gelene Thomas Whitfield; daughter, Carol Whitfield Harris and husband Jimmy of Conway; son, Richard Whitfield and his wife Rebecca of North Carolina; three grandchildren, Tamara Clement and her husband Jeffrey of Virginia, Doug Gentry and his wife Tiffany of Hot Springs, Arkansas and Harrison Whitfield of North Carolina and two great-grandchildren, Daniel and Miranda Clement of Virginia. One sister Dessie Stroud and her husband Harold of Springfield, Missouri; three brothers, Dale Whitfield and his wife Marie, Bill Whitfield and his wife Faye all of Mountain View, Bob Whitfield and his wife Deloris of Calico Rock, Arkansas; brothers-in-law, Virgil ‘Jack' Thomas and his wife Jane, Don Thomas and his wife Jeal and numerous other loving family members and friends.
The funeral service will be 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Foothills Baptist Church in Mountain View, Arkansas with Bro. Don Strait and Bro. Robb Arnold officiating and burial in Flatwoods Cemetery, Mountain View, Arkansas. Pallbearers are Paul Majors, Randy Thomas, Richard Thomas, Greg Thomas, Johnny Whitfield, Bruce Whitfield, Greg Smith and Larry Lawrence. Honorary pallbearers are the Deacons of Foothills Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Foothills Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 860, Mountain View, AR 72560.
Roller Crouch Funeral Home, Mtn. View, Arkansas is in charge of the arrangements.
