Emery Dean Curlee age 89, of Louisville, formerly of Alexandria, LA, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2013.
He was born December 9, 1923 in Mountain Home, AR, the son of the late Mac Emery Curlee and Mabel Bucher Curlee and was a Navy Veteran LT JG, having served during WWII.
Dean was a 1947 graduate of the University of Arkansas. Upon graduation he entered into Northwestern University, where he earned his Juris Doctorate Degree in 1950 and started into private practice in Mountain Home, until 1956. In 1956, Dean joined Rock Island Railroad in Chicago, IL, as general counsel. In 1988, he was appointed Administrative Law Judge with the Department of Social Security Disability and was assigned to the Alexandria, LA, office, later transferring to Louisville, until his retirement in 2011.
Dean was a member of the American Bar Association, Alexandria Masonic Lodge #398, Medinah Shrine Temple in Addison, IL, and Lambda Chi Alpha Fraternity. Dean was a Kentucky Colonel and a Methodist by faith. Throughout his life, he supported the arts and education in each community. He loved to golf and travel and was fluent in the German language.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy Bruce Curlee and two sisters, Alice Marbury and Delores Poynter.
Dean is survived by his wife, Rena (Waddell) Miller Curlee; three daughters, Dr. Paula Curlee Barnes (Clifford) of Memphis, TN, Mary Frances Russell (Dan) of Chicago, IL and Nancy Katherine Schroeter of Memphis; four grandchildren, Elizabeth Emery Rincon, Jonathan Barnes and Megan and Lindsey Russell; great-granddaughter, Amelia Nancy Lownes; nephew, Terry Poynter (Gaye) of Mountain Home, AR and a niece, Linda Freeman (Arthur) of Birmingham, AL.
Services conducted by Reverend Jim McDonald will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, October 13, 2013 at Roller Funeral Home with visitation prior to services, starting at 1:00 p.m. A Masonic service will be held at 2:30 PM prior to the funeral. Interment immediately follows in Baxter Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial gifts be made to The American Heart Association.
