Mrs. Alma Belle Franks

Alma Belle (Messick) Franks, age 84, of Monkey Run, Arkansas, passed away Saturday, October 5, 2013, at Gassville Therapy and Living Center.

She was born September 7, 1929, in Mountain Home, Arkansas, to Herbert A. and Esta Mae Raymond Messick. She graduated from Mountain Home High School in 1946 and taught one year at Clarkridge and one year at Buford. She married Dean Franks in August, 1949 and travelled the Southwest for the next five years as Dean pursued a minor league baseball career. They settled in Monkey Run permanently in 1956. Mrs. Franks was a homemaker for the remainder of her life. She was a member of Pilgrims Rest Baptist and served as Sunday school teacher, song leader, pianist, sang in the choir and worked with the Bible School during the summers. She was a substitute teacher at Cotter Schools for several years. She enjoyed quilting, playing the piano, organ, violin and mandolin, and loved watching her sons, grandchildren and nieces and nephews in their activities, especially sports.

She is survived by her sons: Joe (June) Franks, Batesville; Jim (Debbie) Franks, Russellville; a sister: Leona (Bob) Cheek, Monkey Run; four grandchildren: Sarah (James) Craske, Batesville; Trent Franks, Berlin, Germany; Lance (Keri) Franks, Chico, California; and Jordan (Tim) Mills, Bentonville; four great-grandchildren: Adisyn, Holden and Easton Franks, Chico, California; and Cooper Dean Mills, Bentonville; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sisters: Mary Ann Messick and Alpha Tilton.

Visitation will be from Noon-9:00 P.M. Tuesday at Roller Funeral Home with the family receiving friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. A Graveside Service will be 10:00 A.M. Wednesday at Pilgrims Rest Cemetery with Reverend Charles Tilton and Airl Cheek officiating. Memorials may be made to the Cotter Elementary School Library.
