Son of Jack and Ann Phillips
James Bolding Phillips of Portland, Oregon, died Monday, Feb. 14, 2011, at Legacy Mount Hood Medical Center in Gresham, OR after a two year battle with cancer.
He was born Oct. 23, 1961, in Houston, Texas. He received an undergraduate degree in music at the University of Texas at Arlington, and a master's degree in music education/music performance at the University of Oregon. He was an accomplished musician and educator in the Eugene and Portland areas for over 20 years. He served as principal of Sandy Grade School in Sandy, OR for the past four years.
A celebration of his life was held Feb. 18, 2011, at the Sandy Grade School gymnasium. School superintendent Shelley Redinger said during the eulogy that "James has been a motivator and instructional leader. We will miss his friendly demeanor, his true passion for education, and his staunch dedication to his staff and students."
Survivors include his parents, Jack and Ann Phillips of Clarksville; a brother, John Phillips III (Gina) of Houston, Texas; a sister, Karen (Marvin) Fawley of Monticello, AR
