LOWRY, J.W. - Rev. J.W. Lowry died on last Thursday morning at his home in the west part of Rogers. Funeral services were held Friday morning at the M.E. church and were conducted by Rev. Metts. Rev. Lowry came to Rogers three years ago from Knightson, Ind. and during his residence here had gained the respect and friendship of a number of our citizens. He was seventy-seven years old and the greater portion of his life had been spent in the ministry of the M.E. church. He leaves a wife and two daughters, Mrs. Kate Ellis and Miss Ora Lowry.

LOWREY, Catherine - Mrs. Catherine Lowrey, an aged resident of Rogers, was burned to death in her home last Friday when her clothing was ignited from a stove in her room. She was burned from head to foot and lived only a short time after a physician reached her side. Mrs. Lowrey was alone in her room when the accident occurred. Her screams were heard by other members of the family but by the time they had rushed to her assistance she was enveloped by the flames. The fire was smothered as quickly as possible and a physician who lives in the neighborhood was called but could do little.

LOWRY, Catherine - Mrs. Catherine Lowry, mother of Mrs. Kate Ellis and Miss Ora Lowry, was fatally burned Friday morning at her home in the northwest part of town and died Saturday morning without having regained consciousness. Mrs. Lowry, who was 78 years of age, had been in very feeble health for some time. Friday morning her daughters had dressed her and placed her in a chair near the stove. Both were called from the room for a moment and in some unexplained manner the clothing and wraps of the mother caught fire. Mrs. Lowry's great-grandson was in the room with her and the little fellow instantly gave the alarm but when Miss Lowry reached her mother she was in a mass of flames. Miss Lowry succeeded in smothering the flames with the bed clothes but not before her own hands were painfully burned. Together with Mrs. Ellis, she also succeeded in extinguishing the fire in the room. Mrs. Lowry's injuries were so serious that the doctor could give the family no hope whatever and could only do what was possible to allay the pain. Miss Lowry thought her mother called her name as she entered the room but if so it was her last conscious word. Funeral services were held at the residence Sunday afternoon and were conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.R. Nelson. Interment was in the city cemetery by the side of the grave of her husband who died here a number of years ago. Mrs. Lowry was a most lovable Christian woman and although she had been confined to her home very largely in recent years she had many friends and acquaintances. It is a sad close to so useful a life and the bereaved family have the sympathy of the entire community.
