BALD KNOB, Ark. -- Two children were killed when the driver of a mobile
drilling rig crossed a highway center line and the rig landed on top of
their family's sports utility vehicle, state police say
Rig driver, Glen Dale Monday, 54, of Stigler, Okla., told state police he
was driving to a job site Sunday morning, had mechanical trouble, and lost
control of his vehicle at a curve in the road. The rig overturned on
Arkansas 36 in White County and landed on top of the SUV.
Tanner Rose, 9, and his sister, Brooklyn Rose, 3, died in the crash, state
police said. Their parents, Stephen Edward Rose and Elizabeth Ann Rose,
both 37, were taken to hospitals. The family is from Bald Knob.
Arkansas State Police Cpl. Ray Ervin said the family may have been on
their way to church when the accident occurred at 9:40 a.m. He said a Bible
was on the front seat of the SUV.
Stephen Rose was listed in stable condition at St. Vincent Infirmary
Medical Center, a hospital spokesman said. Elizabeth Rose was in stable,
but guarded, condition, state police said.
After the crash, Arkansas Highway Police were inspecting the 98,000-pound
mobile drilling rig.
