In the presence of hundreds of sorrowing friends funeral services were held Thursday afternoon May 14th at the Christian church for Mrs. Fannie Iris Doke, wife of W.J. Doke, president of the Benton County Hardware Company and manager of that firm's local store, who passed away at 8:30 o'clock Tuesday morning, May 12, 1925 at the family home here, her sudden death, which followed several months of failing health, coming as a profound shock to the entire community and to a host of other friends. The services were conducted by the Rev. Stephen A. Morton, pastor, and Dr. J.P. Pinkerton of Warsaw, Mo., a former pastor of the local Christian church, an intimate friend of the Doke family for many years. The Rev. C.D. Purlee, of the Siloam Springs Christian Church, also assisted in the simple and impressive rites. Only two songs were used, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," sung by Mrs. Rex W. Peel of Oklahoma City, and "The Christian's Good-Bye," sung by Miss Sarah Frances Cloe, Bentonville. Fannie Iris McPhetridge was born at St. Joseph, Mo. April 24, 1865, the family later moving to Plattsburg, Mo. At Edgerton, Mo. on December 1, 1886 she was married to William J. Doke and they began together their journey through life which to the hour of her going was one of constant companionship. Mr. and Mrs. Doke and their only child, Eugene M. Doke, now manager of the wholesale department of the Benton County Hdwe. Co. at Muskogee, Okla., came to Bentonville in July 1893. From that day the family has been prominently identified with the affairs of the community and active in every movement for the betterment of their adopted town, county and state. Mrs. Doke became a member of the Christian Church in 1883 and was ever a faithful member of that denomination. Besides her husband and son and two grandchildren, Dorothy and W.J. Doke II, Mrs. Doke is survived by one sister, Mrs. W.S. Herndon of Plattsburg, Mo., three brothers; W.R. McPhetridge, Pittsburgh, Pa., O.W. McPhetridge, Las Vegas, N.M. and Roy F. McPhetridge of Wichita, Kans.
